SPOT SAVED · LOCAL ONLY
// What's inside

Tools built for the trail, not for the lab.

Every feature is designed around one question: does this actually help you find more American ginseng and remember where you found it?

// 01 DETECTION

Real-time ginseng detection.

Point your camera. A trained on-device model scores every frame and highlights what looks like American ginseng. Confidence updates live, right on screen.

// 02 SPOTS

Drop a pin. Never lose a patch.

Save your spots with GPS coordinates grouped by proximity. Everything stays on your device — no account, no cloud, no leaking your honey hole.

LOCAL · ENCRYPTED · YOURS
// 03 HAUL

Every find, timestamped.

Save full-resolution photos straight to your camera roll. Your find log, your proof, your memories — all you.

// 04 PRIVACY

Private by default.

No accounts. No analytics SDKs. GPS data never leaves the device. Detection images are only ever uploaded if you opt in, and they're stripped of metadata first.

// Three steps

Scout. Save. Return.

The simplest loop in ginseng foraging: find it, mark it, open up your saved spots in a mapping application next season. GinsengHunter helps you find and track your best producing spots.

01

Scout with the camera.

Open the app, work the north- and east-facing slopes under hardwood canopy, and walk. The model runs continuously — you'll hear a chime (if you want one) when confidence spikes.

02

Save the spot.

Found something? Tap the pin. GPS gets locked in silently, grouped with nearby finds, and stored locally. Tap the shutter for a full-res photo.

03

Return next season.

Ginseng comes back. Your Spots list is waiting. Check your maps, wait for the berries to redden in late summer, head back to last year's producers — and harvest ethically, replanting the red berries to re-seed.

// Read this. Seriously.

This app assists identification. It doesn't decide.

A trained model can narrow the search — it cannot replace your own eyes, local botanical expertise, or physical verification. American ginseng has look-alikes, and it is a regulated or protected species in many U.S. states.

!

Before harvesting anything you found with GinsengHunter:

  • Confirm the identification with a trained botanist or experienced ginseng forager in person.
  • Verify the characteristic three-to-five compound leaves with toothed leaflets and the fleshy taproot before harvesting.
  • Cross-reference against look-alikes: dwarf ginseng (Panax trifolius), Virginia creeper, and wild sarsaparilla, which vary by region.
  • Check state regulations — American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is protected or regulated in many states. Never harvest without verifying local laws.
  • When in doubt, leave it. Harvest ethically — replant the bright red berries to ensure ginseng returns next season.

// Questions

Straight answers.

Does the app guarantee ginseng identification?
No. The detection model helps you look faster — it never guarantees a positive ID. Always verify identification with an experienced botanist or forager before harvesting.
Does GinsengHunter track my location or share my spots?
No. GPS coordinates for saved spots are stored only on your device. There is no account system and no cloud sync. Your patches stay yours.
Does detection work offline?
Yes. The model runs entirely on-device. Once installed, you don't need cellular or Wi-Fi for detection — good news, because most ginseng habitat in hardwood hollows doesn't have signal.
What region is the model trained on?
Training data covers American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) across its native range in North America, with emphasis on Appalachian and Midwestern hardwood forests. If you opt in, anonymous detection images help expand coverage to your region over time.
When is the Android version coming?
The Android build is in development. Leave your email (coming soon) if you want a heads-up when it ships.
Can the app find other plants?
GinsengHunter is trained specifically for American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius). It is not a general plant identification app and should not be used for other species.

Season's short. Go find some.

Download GinsengHunter on iPhone or Android and head into the hardwood hollows this fall.
